Obituary

John Joseph Baker, born on July 21, 1947, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026.

Born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, John—known as “Baker” to many who knew him later moved to Mansfield with his wife, Jean, where they built a life together, raised their family, and remained proud residents for more than 50 years.

Baker was known for being a straight shooter with a sharp sense of humor. He accepted people for who they were, spoke his mind, and was always willing to help when it mattered. He was a die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Bruins, and he enjoyed old movies, reading the newspaper, and spending time with his family.

He spent his career as a fire protection and plumbing engineer, working on projects from Boston to the Middle East.

John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean Baker; his daughters, Kara Baker and her husband, Matt Braunger, and Ashley Fortune and her husband, Brett Degen; and his grandchildren, Connor, Rose, and Myles.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, August 5th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 or Hilarity for Charity, 7656 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046.
