Obituary

BUXTON- Guy Hunt, born April 1, 1949, in Portland, Maine, passed away at home of natural causes on July 3, 2026 in Buxton. Guy's life was one of purpose, driven by his love of learning and commitment to his family. Guy was the first-born son of Henry and Virginia Hunt, who instilled in him the value of honesty and integrity that he carried throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Kristopher Hunt.
Guy is survived by his devoted wife Lin, with whom he shared 55 years; son Ethan and his wife Lindsey, along with their children Kyle, Kregg, Kloey and Konner and three grand-dogs; daughter Ariel and her husband Matt along with their daughter Peyton, and one grand-dog. Guy is also survived by his brothers, Ed and Richard "Chuck" Hunt, along with Ed's wife Doreen, and their daughter Stephanie.
In a shared sense of love for nature, and living an authentic life, Guy married Lin Martin on December 27, 1971. For over five decades, they crafted a life filled with a joy of the outdoors, a commitment to social activism and a deep and abiding commitment to the bonds of family. Indeed, their bond was a testament to all the phases of enduring love, and together they nurtured a family that became the center of Guy's universe.
His children and grandchildren brought immense pride and joy to Guy. A man of few verbal words, his deep love and respect was often expressed to his children and grandchildren through his actions: he was there every time they needed him; he gave unique gifts that spoke directly to them; and guided without saying a word. As grandchildren came, each child became an absolute shining light in his life and filled him with pure love. Guy’s spirit and sense of curiosity will continue to live through each of them.
A man of intellect and deep-rooted passion, Guy graduated from Gorham State College, now known as the University of Southern Maine. He dedicated his life to education, nurturing young minds from elementary to middle school, predominantly through the SAD 6 school system. His career was marked by a lifelong love of learning, which he imparted to countless children, leaving an indelible impact on their lives. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Guy was a man of many interests. An avid reader, he found challenge and inspiration in the pages of countless books. His interest in music spanned many genres, with favorites Bob Dylan and Bruce Springstein leading the list. His love for photography allowed him to capture the beauty of the world through his lens, preserving moments of wonder that will be cherished by those he leaves behind.
Guy found a way to let you know the depth of his caring without saying a word. His memory will forever be a source of comfort and strength.
In his honor, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to your local library. This gesture would be a fitting tribute to a man who believed in the power of education and giving.
As we say goodbye, we carry forward his spirit in our hearts, remembering him not just for the life he led, but for the love he quietly and deeply felt for the natural world and his family, the touchstones of his life.
A celebration of Guy’s life will be held on August 8th, 1-3 pm at 450 County Road Scarborough (corner of Rt. 22 and Broadturn Rd. entrance on Broadturn…locals will remember it as the Bungalo). please join the family for sharing of stories and refreshments to honor Guy.
