Obituary

Albert Dooly Potts, 89, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2026, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Stacy Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Mr. Potts will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens.

Trent Davis, Ashley Davis, Winston Brogdon, Robert Lindsey, Steve Register and Ronnie Williams will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ches Thompson, Benji Baldree, Pablo and Amy Olquin and Darlene Parker.

Born April 13, 1937, in Moultrie, Mr. Potts was the son of the late Lola Rhea Dooly Potts and the Rev. L. M. Potts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lindsey Potts. Before retiring, he worked as an Ag Researcher for the University of Georgia Experiment Station. In the late 1960s, he was instrumental in getting United Parcel Service started in Tifton. He worked his way up through the ranks and when he left UPS, he was the District Representative for the South Region.

Mr. Potts cared deeply for his family and was a loving father and husband. Family get-togethers were a favorite time for him at his home that he built in 1965. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and taking care of his yard. His other interests included traveling, and he was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 68 years, Saranelle Thompson Potts of Tifton; one son, Al Potts of Tifton and his fiancé, Robin Webb; two daughters, Kimberly Chapman (Geoffrey) of Byron and Robin Potts (Sherry) of Orlando, Florida; two brothers, Bill Potts (Susan) of Perry and Jovon Potts of Tifton; his grandchildren, Savannah Chapman Willoughby of Byron, Jacob Potts (Tori) of Byromville and Luke Potts (Erin) of Homerville; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren Renee Willoughby and Rhett Willoughby.
