Barre, MA – Andrew L. Nazarewicz, 82, of Barre, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus after an illness.
Mr. Nazarewicz is survived by his two children, Mark Nazarewicz of Worcester and Eva Nazarewicz of San Diego, CA; his grandson, Aleksander Williams of San Diego, CA; and his former wife, Janice Nazarewicz of Worcester. He was born in Tel Aviv, son of the late Stanislaw and Jadwiga (Siemaszkiewicz) Nazarewicz, and came to the U.S. at the age of 9.
Andrew graduated from Classical High School in Worcester and then enlisted in the military, proudly serving in the United States Army as a medic. After his Army service, he built a career in the mechanical and IT fields and had a great passion for learning the latest in technology and computers. In 2016, Mr. Nazarewicz retired from the Worcester Public Schools Information Technology department, where he had worked for eighteen years.
Andrew co-founded the Worcester Artist Group in Worcester, MA, in 1987 and provided leadership for the nonprofit arts organization for many years. He was an artist and sculptor, often creating works from found objects and reimagining both form and function. In his later years, his work was exhibited at the ArtWorks Gallery in Ware, MA.
Mr. Nazarewicz was proud of his Polish family heritage and was a self-taught scholar of European and Middle Eastern history. He loved nature and animals, and spent much of his spare time inventing, combining, and tinkering with all things mechanical.
Andrew will be buried in Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester on October 5, 2026. Marchand Memorial Homes, Alfred Roy & Sons – Henry Funeral Service Memorial Chapel, 33 Ward St., Worcester, MA, is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
