Joseph (Joe) T. McCarthy, 67, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born alongside his twin, John (Jack), on February 24, 1959, to the late James V. McCarthy and Mary M. McCarthy (Burns).
Joe graduated from Dorchester High School in 1977 before starting his 36-year career at Northeastern University as a master carpenter and cabinet maker. When Joe wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending his free time at the beach, playing golf, following local Boston sports teams, and spending time with his many friends. On occasion, you might even catch him on the dance floor enjoying ballroom and salsa dancing. Joe also enjoyed his furry, four-legged friends as well.
Joe is pre-deceased by his former spouse, Carol McCarthy (Krim), his brother Robert McCarthy and his late wife Valerie and is survived by his brother James McCarthy and his wife Arlene of Foxborough, sister Catherine McCarthy of Quincy, brother John McCarthy of Quincy, Niece Heather McLaughlin and her husband James of Dorchester, Niece Marybeth Webb and her husband Chris of Tewksbury, Nephew Michael McCarthy of Foxborough, Nephew Kevin McCarthy and his wife Devon of Foxborough, Goddaughter, Emilee McLaughlin, Carol’s daughter Michaela Sullivan, several great nieces and nephews, close cousins, the McAuliffe family and many wonderful friends.
The McCarthy family would like to thank the staff and nurses of the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, MA for their exceptional care. And a special thank you to Joe’s caretakers and best friends, Liz, Maureen, and Paul (Bones), for their time, dedication, love and friendship to Joe, not only during his time of need but for many years prior.
A celebration of life is planned for September. Further details will be shared in the future.
