Mabel G. Josey, a resident of Medford, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 18, 2026. She was 105 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 3, 1921, raised in West Medford, she was the beloved daughter of the late William and Mary E. (Chelsea) Josey. Mabel had been employed in a number of jobs over the years including Simmons Mattress Co., Medford, tufting and tying mattresses, Charlestown Navy Yard as a pipe bender, Schraffts Candy Factory, box making and packing. She was also a hairstylist for 25 years, learning this trade and receiving her license from the La Newton School of Beauty Culture in Boston. She went on to work at Faucena Booker’s Beauty Salon in West Medford as well as working in Mrs. Booker’s hair salon in Oaks Bluff, Martha’s Vineyard. She completed her working career as a Key Punch Operator for Blue Cross Blue Shield. In her youth she was a tap dancer, played guitar and piano. As a retiree, she enjoyed family visits and gatherings, word search, puzzles and playing bingo. She will be dearly missed.
Mabel is survived by her loving children; Paul D. Josey of Tampa, Florida and Juanita L. Gibson of Quincy. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend.
