Obituary

Clifford McDaniel Jr., 99, of Anderson passed away on June 19, 2026 at Sugar Fork Crossing following a brief illness.

He was born on October 29, 1926 in Taylor County, Kentucky to Clifford F. and Bertha Emma (Chappel) McDaniel. He served in the US Army during World War II. He graduated from Anderson College in 1953 with a Bachelors of Theology.

He was minister in the Church of God serving churches in Indiana for over 38 years and retired in 1991. He was the District Superintendent for the Indiana Department of Corrections. Governor Evan Bayh awarded him the Council of the Sagamores of the Wabash following his retirement for his service with the Department of Corrections.

He was a member of East Side Church of God and Chesterfield Community Church of God. He enjoyed gardening, building and construction, and helping with Habitat for Humanity. He was a part of Servant Saturday at East Side Church of God. He and his wife loved to travel and have visited all 50 states. He served on mission teams and enjoyed mission trips both local and international including Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ernestine (Corbin) McDaniel of Anderson; four children, Mark (Mary) McDaniel of Zionsville, Esther (Christopher) Cottrell of Charleston, South Carolina; Paul (Dayla) McDaniel of Indianapolis and Sarah (James) Cox of Anderson; eight grandchildren, John (Elaine) McDaniel, Nathan (Katie) Cottrell, Aaron Cottrell, Caleb (Amber) McDaniel, Luke (Chelsae) McDaniel, Elizabeth (Andy) Weatherford, David (Sara) Cox, and Candace Cox; nine great-grandchildren and three on the way; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Cecil, J. Haskell, Wesley, Charles and John McDaniel; and four sisters, Sylvetta Williams, Bonnie Perkins, Naomi Oleta Curry and Bettie McDaniel.

A private graveside service will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe given to Children of Promise, PO Box 2316, Anderson, IN 46018-2316.
