Obituary

DENMARK- Wilma Holbert Lord, aged 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Denmark with family by
her side, on June 13, 2026.
Born in Elizabeth, West Virginia on Feb 1, 1940, the daughter of George and Wanda Holbert,
Wilma attended schools in Newport, Ohio. She went on to attend St Joseph’s School of Nursing
in Parkersburg, WV, becoming a registered nurse. She then attended St. Anselm's College and
graduated with a BS in nursing in 1971.
Wilma worked in several health care positions over her career, including as a camp nurse at
Camp Wildwood in Bridgton starting in 1966. She returned for several summers and eventually
decided to settle in the Bridgton area.
Starting in 1971, she, along with her lifelong friend Betty Hutchinson, set up the Visiting Nurse
program at Bridgton Hospital. In 1983, she began as care coordinator for Visiting Nurse and
Hospice Care Services of Carroll County in NH. Later that same year, she became Director,
remaining in the position until her retirement in 2016.
In 1996, she married Percy Lord of Denmark. They enjoyed a full life together until he died in
2015.
Wilma enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout her life, including cross-country skiing and
snowshoeing. She was an avid sewer and knitter, and loved gardening as well. Wilma loved
animals and owned many special dogs along the way, including Misty, Molly, and Toby. She was
an active member of the Denmark Congregational Church and a supporter of many Denmark
events.
Wilma is predeceased by her parents, her sister Marty Harlow and her husband Tom Harlow,
and her husband Percy Lord. She is survived by her son Nathan Holbert and his partner Sarah
Beardsley and her children Charlotte, James, and Trixie, all of Denmark; nephew Jim Harlow
and family of Idaho; niece Kim Sutton and family of Florida; niece Mary Spindler and family of
Utah; nephew Michael Harlow and family of Oklahoma; niece Susan Rasmussen and family of
California; and nephew Kevin Harlow and family of California. She is also survived by her best
friend Betty Hutchinson of Bridgton, and her children John and Anne and their families, as well
as many other friends.
Services will be held Saturday June 27 at 11 am at the Denmark Congregational Church. Online
