
GORHAM- Roger A. Link Sr., 79, husband of Janice, passed away on June 6, 2026, at Seaside
Healthcare after a courageous battle with cancer.
Roger was born in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on March 14, 1947, the son of Charles and Edra (Libby)
Link. He graduated from Bonny Eagle High School in 1965. He pitched a no hitter in Little League
for a number of games. He played baseball until he was a junior in high school.
When Roger was 14 years old, he worked for a potato farm in Buxton that grew potatoes for King Cole
potato chips. During Rogers senior year in high school he worked for a trucking company in Dayton
to help build a sewer line for Biddeford High School. From there, Roger worked at Sebago Moc
Shoe Company in Westbrook. He worked there for 24 years. Roger was the fastest hand sewer at
Sebago Moc. He made 48 pairs of shoes a day, the average was 22 pairs of shoes a day. Later
Roger worked for Stride Rite Shoe Company and Filla Shoe Industry, both in Massachusetts. He
worked with pattern makers and research and development.
Roger was involved with Buxton/Hollis JC's for a few years. They put up all the street signs in the
town of Buxton. For more than 60 years, Roger was a sheep shearer, He sheared sheep from
Lewiston to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. His son, Roger Link Jr., sheared sheep for many years
with his dad. Roger Sr. was in a contest and sheared 1 sheep in 1 minute and 31 seconds. He
was known as one of the best sheep shearers in Maine. He loved sheep shearing and was very gentle
in handling the sheep. He also raised and showed Dairy Goats and had the name of Hardwork Farm.
His son, Scot, now carries on that name with his goats. Roger showed his Dairy Goats at many of the
local Agricultural Fairs.
For years, you could always see Roger on the golf courses. He worked for 15 years at Rivermeadow
Golf Course in Westbrook as a green superintendent. Roger loved to play golf almost all of his life.
During his golfing years, he got a hole in one which he was extremely excited about. Roger was
also on the grounds crew at Windham High School for 4 years before totally retiring.
Along with golfing, Roger loved bowling. He bowled candlepin bowling out of Big 20 in Scarborough.
He was on a mens leaguewhen he worked at Sebago Shoe. He bowled for over 50 years. Roger
and Janice bowled couples leagues for several years and also did Senior Bowling travel leagues, which
they both held State titles for Candlepin bowling.
In 1982 Roger and Janice got together, Roger told Janice she was the love of his life and they married in
1989.
Roger is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Edra Link, and also Rogers beloved, stepdad, Gordon
Dertinger who was in, all ways, his bonus dad. Roger was also predeceased by a son, who passed
away right after birth.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, of 37 years, Janice Whitten Link, his children, Libbyann Link(Clint),
Roger Link Jr. (Jean), Scot Link (Jessica), Jennifer Norton Link and Kenneth Link (Dawn), and his two
children, Don Gregor (Lisa), and Jeff Gregor (Sarah). Roger loved his family dearly. He also leaves
behind several grandchildren, great grandchildren nieces, and nephews and cousins. Roger is also
survived by his brother, Rodney Link (Nancy), and his sisters, Joan Link Plummer (Gene), and Jean
Link Doiron (Lenny).
Roger will be missed deeply. He will forever be in our hearts.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday June 25th from 1 -3 PM, followed by a time of sharing at 3 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. Burial will be at a later date at South Buxton Cemetery.
