Raymond E. Mackey, Jr., age 97, a longtime resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Born in Boston, MA on November 17, 1928, he was a loving son of the late Raymond E., Sr. and Geraldine B. (Marston) Mackey.
Ray grew up in the Town of Dedham and was a 1946 graduate of Dedham High School. During the time of the Korean War, he proudly served his country as member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
A resident of Mansfield for over 70 years, Ray was a talented finish carpenter and extremely skilled in other trades, amongst them being metal fabricating and creating and building wooden clocks. His family and friends were an important part of his life, as well as being outdoors and fishing. Ray will always be remembered for his genuine kindness and helping others in his neighborhood with home projects.
He was the devoted father of Roy E. Mackey and his wife Brenda of Washington State, Paul B. Mackey of Mansfield, Susan L. Mackey and her companion Michael Camara of Fall River and the late William A. Mackey. He was the cherished grandfather of Richard, Jennifer and Kristel and proud to be the great grandfather of seven great grandchildren. He was the brother of David Mackey and the late Robert Mackey, George Mackey and Barbara Harnden. He was the former husband of the late Ida J. (Dunn) Mackey Greenwood.
A service in celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Visiting hours are omitted and burial will be private.
