The family will receive friends on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Enigma Community Church.

Mrs. McMillan’s grandsons, John Bowen, Michael Bowen, Tyler McMillan, Tanner McMillan, Gage McMillan, and Hunter Garrett will serve as pallbearers.

Born January 29, 1932, in Lanier County, Mrs. McMillan was the daughter of the late Talley Carter Fountain and Letha Register Fountain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Carroll McMillan, whom she married on July 29, 1951; two sons, Mark McMillan and Keith McMillan; one daughter, Phyllis McMillan. In addition to three of her children, she was preceded in death by her oldest grandchild, Ryan Osman. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Louise (Clint) O'Brien; one brother, Lewis (Orpha) Fountain; and a sister-in-law, Linda Fountain.

She graduated from Berrien County High School in 1948, where she was Valedictorian of her class as well as class president. Immediately following graduation, she began working at the Berrien County School Superintendent’s office at the age of 16 and this is where she met her future husband.

Her working career in bookkeeping was with the Berrien County Board of Education and later the Tift County School System. She served as acting school superintendent for Berrien County for six months after the death of the superintendent, Lossie Gaskins.

After retiring, she and Maurice traveled extensively to all fifty states (some multiple times), but her favorite place was her home in Enigma.

She grew up in the New Lois Community and moved to Enigma upon marrying, making Enigma her lifetime home. She began attending Enigma Methodist Church in 1951 and served it faithfully until her death. She served as treasurer for many years, taught youth Sunday School; and served in District offices with United Methodist Women.

She was also involved in the community as an active member of the Pine Garden Club in Tifton for many years and played in a number of bridge groups. In the past, she was named Berrien County Homemaker of the year.

She was a faithful wife, loving mother and honored her Heavenly Father. In her own words, her most important things in life were marrying her husband and establishing a home for her five children.

She will be missed by her family who survives her, two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra (Bill) Bowen and Carole (Gregg) Frank; a daughter-in-law, Monica Raines McMillan; seven grandchildren, Ashley Greenwald, John Bowen, Michael Bowen, Tyler McMillan, Tanner McMillan, Gage McMillan and Lollie Garrett; five great grandchildren; and one brother, Talley Edward Fountain.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Tift Area and her many devoted sitters.
