Edward F. Sweeney, Jr., a former longtime resident of Charlestown and Malden passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at his home in Stoneham.
Eddie was born in Boston August 1, 1941, to the late Edward F. Sweeney and Alice (Fleming) Sweeney. He was raised in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Don Bosco High School. Eddie retired as a Senior Deputy Commissioner from the Massachusetts Division of Banks and served on Executive Positions for several local institutions. He was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and Lifetime Member of the Malden Irish American Club. Eddie enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, playing golf, and cribbage.
Eddie was the beloved husband of the late Catherine (Lynch) Sweeney. He was the father of Karen Powers (Mike), Michael Sweeney (Michelle), Brian Sweeney (Elisa) and Linda Gannon (Tommy). He was the cherished “Grampa” to Melissa, Ashley, Brittany, Jillian, Christopher, Kierra, Mikey, Brendan, Jack, Kevin, and Hunter. He was great-grandfather to Connor, Madison, and Mackenzie.
We would like to thank the staff at The Arbors in Stoneham for their compassionate care.
