James A. Stewart, 78
Dateline: Easton, MA
James A. Stewart, age 78, of Easton, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 24, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Melanie E. Haskins, to whom he was wed for thirty-two years.
Born in Oakland, California on November 27, 1947, he was a loving son of the late Glen and Dolores (Evans) Stewart.
Jim had made his home in Easton for the past fourteen years. He previously resided in Norton for eighteen years and worked as a drug and alcohol councilor.
Jim’s family and friends were always the focal point of his life and people simply gravitated towards him. Along with his friends, Jim had a passion for motorcycles, rode Harley’s for thirty years and belonged to a motorcycle group.
Jim loved to fish, a hobby he passed down to his boys, Zach and Josh. At times when he wanted solitude, he would grab a fishing pole and head out. His family had a small boat with an electric motor, which was just big enough for all to come aboard, and served them well on many fishing excursions.
He enjoyed golf and while he wasn’t the best at it, he enjoyed being outside in the sun and the comradery of fellow golfers.
Jim had a special place in his heart for dogs. His family always at least one dog, and sometimes as many as for at a time. Rottweiler’s were his favorite breed, but they had many others, as well as mixed breeds. If there was a dog in need of a home, Jim usually found a way for it to become part of his loving family’s home.
Jim will always be remembered for his big heart and lots of compassion for everyone and everything. He is truly and surely missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Kimberly Kleehammer of Mobile, Alabama and twin sons Joshua E. Stewart and Zachary J. Stewart, both of Easton. He was the cherished grandfather of Kaitlin and Kara, the much-loved son-in-law of Malcolm H. Haskins of Norton and his late wife June A. Haskins and the dear brother-in-law of the late Lynne A. Haskins.
Services will be announced at a later date when finalized.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street, Norton.
