Obituary

Maurice J. “Moe” Munger, died on April 15, 2026, at Plymouth Hospital after a brief illness. He was 74 years old.

He is survived and will be missed by his niece, Lindsey O’Connell of Plymouth, her father Kenneth O’Connell, many cousins, and close friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Rita (Costello) Munger, his sister Janet (Munger) O’Connell, and his wife Luanne (Kadish) Munger.

Moe was raised in Watertown. He grew up on Fayette Street in a house with his grandparents, aunt, parents, and sister.

Moe went to St. Patrick’s in Watertown for elementary school and junior high. He then transferred to Watertown High School, graduating in 1970.

In his younger years, he and his sister were taught to dance competitively, following in the shadow of his mother’s greatest passion. With such great experience, women loved to dance with Moe in his later years.

Moe was one of the long line of Mungers who devoted their life to the railroad, as far back as the 1800’s. He retired from Amtrak after a 40 year career as a locomotive engineer.

Moe moved around a bit as most adults do, but came back to the Fayette home to help care for his ailing mother. He moved to the Oak Point community in Middleborough, MA to live out his retirement.

Moe was a caring person and loved to meet people. He lived a colorful life in his younger years. He loved to travel and ride his Harley. He had a passion for history and kept himself civic-minded. He was a bright beacon of knowledge and loved to collect historical and locomotive memorabilia.

In his later years he enjoyed fishing and reading. He was known for ‘discussing’ history and politics, and was great about keeping in touch with his friends and family. We always knew when Moe called, it would be an interesting conversation.

There will be be a Celebration of Life on Friday, May 29th at 12:00 PM. If you plan to attend, please email his cousin Doreen at [email protected] for the location. Or call her at 617-694-8634.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s, a favorite charity of Moe’s.
