Ralph Urban, 79, of Westport, MA passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026 at Berkshire Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Providence, R.I.. He was born on 12/6/1946 in Fall River Massachusetts; a son of the late Ralph and Angela (Kelly) Urban.
Ralph attended B.M.C. Durfee High school in Fall River, MA and graduated in 1964. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1967 and proudly served his country for 11 1/2 years. He eventually pursued a career in civil engineering and was a land surveyor for over 40 years. In 1972, he built a home here in Westport with his then wife and two children. He resided in that home until 2024 when he had to be placed in a facility for his rapidly progressing vascular dementia.
From 1995 to 2006 he worked for the Town of Westport’s Board of Health Department. He also worked for the Town of Acushnet as their Senior Public Health Agent from 2006 until 2013. In addition to working full time, he also owned and operated a land surveying business for over four decades.
Ralph approached life with a quick wit and a generous heart always ready with a story or advice to those he loved. He was hardworking, loyal, intelligent, compassionate, civic minded, altruistic, and a pillar of the community.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son Scott Urban and his wife Kim of Westport, MA, his daughter Dawn Hvolbeck of Westport, MA and her four children: Michael Denis, Jr. and his wife Nicole Denis of Riverside, R.I., Kayla Beckler of Thompson, CT., Zachary Beckler of Westerly, R.I., Evan Hvolbeck of Westport, MA., and his two beautiful great-grandchildren Landen and Kylie Denis.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Joyce Ainsworth of Fall River, MA. He is survived by his two sisters Judy Maffini of Plymouth, MA and Nancy Torres of Fall River, MA., several nieces and nephews along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Westport Senior Center on 75 Reed Road, Westport, MA. 02790.
