Anusha Somaratne passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at home in Ventura, California. Anusha was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and wife and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Anusha is survived by her husband Mudali, son Ransi, daughter Kanchana Allan, daughter-in-law Jan Iles-Somaratne, son-in-law Poe Allan, sister Mallika Gunasekera, grandchildren Quinn Allan, Noah Somaratne (Astrid), Jaden Allan, Griffin Somaratne and Kinley Allan. She was preceded in death by her father Walter Gunasekera, mother Prema Ganegoda Gunasekera and brother Anura Gunasekera.
Anusha lived a life full of energy, generosity and love. She was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka and emigrated to the United States in 1971 with her family. She was a Montessori educator for over 50 years. Anusha began teaching in Ventura in 1974 and opened the Montessori Learning Center in 1986 where she taught until 2022. In addition to her wonderful family, Anusha leaves a legacy of educating hundreds of children during her lifetime. She cherished her role as a teacher, viewing each child as unique and working tirelessly on their behalf.
