Albert J. Hanson Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, with his loving sons at his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy Lee (Sullivan) Hanson, who passed away in 1992 after more than 28 years of marriage together.
Born in Quincy on August 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Albert J. Hanson Sr. and the late Beatrice (Henshon) Hanson. He spent his early childhood in Weymouth before his family relocated to Lynnfield following World War II. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School and later attended Northeastern University for three years before being drafted into the United States Army. Mr. Hanson proudly served his country while stationed in Germany and, upon returning to Massachusetts, continued his military service with the National Guard.
Mr. Hanson made his home in Tewksbury since 1970. He was employed for more than thirty years at the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory where he helped with the Apollo space program. This laboratory later became Draper Laboratories. He took great pride in his work and was honored to be a member of the MIT Quarter Century Club.
Albert was a truly gifted pianist who possessed an extraordinary natural talent for music. He could hear nearly any tune once and sit down to play it effortlessly on the piano, something that brought him great joy throughout his life. He also had a lifelong love of automobiles, treasured time spent with his family, and especially enjoyed visiting with his sisters over the years.
He is survived by his devoted sons, Mark Hanson and Keith Hanson, both of Tewksbury.
He was also the brother of the late Arline Theresa Malerich, Carol Ann Rayworth, Marilyn Louise Armstrong, and Elaine Marie Doyle.
His funeral services will take place privately. Burial in Tewksbury Cemetery.
