TILTON --- In the middle of his 93rd year, Mr. Albert B Smith III received his Divine Promotion.
He was survived by his 5 children and 4 children-in-law, his 5 grandchildren and his 3 great-grandchildren, Also, missing him are numerous nieces and nephews that were dear to his heart and several precious cousins, and quite a few special friends. Albert was predeceased by his wife Alice in 2019 shortly after their 66th wedding anniversary, a milestone they were both thankful and pleased to achieve. He was also predeceased by his parents, Albert and Helen, his six siblings, many cousins and dear friends, and one daughter-in-law.
Albert would regularly describe himself as “just a poor little farm boy who grew up on a 1 family farm during the depression”. While growing up Albert learned to appreciate a simple life-style and to enjoy the natural world. As a boy he was active in his neighborhood 4-H Club and joined the Juvenile Grange as well, transitioning from that group to the New Hampton Subordinate Grange in due course of time. Albert remained a Grange member for over 75 years. During his teen years Albert declared his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized in August of 1947. In his later years, especially, Albert spoke often of the beauty in the world around him as being “God’s creation for us to enjoy”.
During his working years Albert was employed at numerous manufacturing businesses including Scott & Williams in Laconia for nearly 20 years. After being laid off there during a general down-sizing of the company, he worked at several other businesses including a few that made printed circuit boards for a variety of applications.
Albert thoroughly enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and made sure his children knew how to do that work, too. Together they planted, cultivated and harvested many pounds of produce that Alice prepared or preserved for the family’s use. Even after the children were grown Albert continued to cultivate a large garden, freely sharing the produce with anyone and everyone he knew that had a need. He especially delighted in sharing garden goods with those who for whatever reason could not grow their own vegetables. With a few plants received from a friend Albert established a raspberry patch that grew exponentially and supplied delicious fruit abundantly.
As a teenager Albert learned an invaluable lesson from his Pastor about trusting God. He advised Albert against worrying because if he was worrying then he wouldn’t be trusting God and if he wasn’t trusting God then he wasn’t obeying Him. Throughout his life there were many times Albert could have given in to worry, and even despair, if he had not remembered and followed that lesson.
A funeral service will be held for Albert at 10:00AM on Friday May 29, 2026 at his childhood church, The Dana Meeting House, 288 Dana Hill Road, New Hampton, New Hampshire, followed by a graveside committal at the New Hampton Village Cemetery.
