Obituary

William P. “Bill” McDonough, Jr. of Concord, formerly of Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury passed away on May 1, 2026. Beloved husband of Candace L. (Kelton) Cox. Devoted father of William J. “Bill” McDonough of Marshfield, Michelle Hocking of Norwell, Scott McDonough of Beverly and David McDonough and his wife Dana Cairns of Everett, and stepfather of David H. Cox and his wife Christine of NC. Dear brother of Marilyn Walsh and her husband Richard of Jamaica Plain, Lawrence “Larry” McDonough and his late wife Kathy of West Roxbury, and the late Barry McDonough. Loving grandfather of Diesel, Roxi, Fiona, Scotty, Wade, and Emmett McDonough, Diane, Stephen, and Ryan Hocking, Hayes and Emerson Cox. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bill grew up in Forest Hills and attended St. Andrew’s School. He graduated from English High School, Boston State College, and Suffolk Law School.

He was known as both a raconteur and an entrepreneur. His outgoing, amiable personality contributed to his success as owner of several businesses, his favorite of which was a tour company he established in Boston. He delighted in meeting visitors to the city and sharing his knowledge and love of Boston history.

Bill loved flying. He obtained his pilot’s license at the age of 16 and regularly flew out of Norwood airport. He enjoyed traveling, particularly visiting relatives in Ireland and living in Maui with his wife Candace where they graciously entertained everyone in their family.

Bill had a lifelong interest in art. He regularly visited The Museum of Fine Arts and enjoyed painting and sketching. He had an art studio in West Concord.

For a number of years, Bill participated in the Alzheimer’s group, Continuing Connections. The family appreciates the outstanding care Bill received from the hospice care team, nurses, and CNA's at Sudbury Pines Extended Care.

Visiting Hours in the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Monday, May 11th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment private.
