Obituary

“Lou, Bud, Buddy, Papa”
February 23, 1936 – April 21, 2026

Louis Paul Farrar, known to many as Lou, Bud, Buddy, and Papa, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Fillmore, California on April 21, 2026.

Born in Chicago, Illinois to Louis Farrar and Brunetta Avie Farrar, Louis learned the value of hard work at an early age. After the passing of his father in his early twenties, he stepped up to help support his mother and younger brother—an act that would define his lifelong devotion to family and responsibility.

A naturally gifted and mechanically inclined man, Louis had a passion for speed in his younger years and was known as a highly successful street racer. His talents extended far beyond the road. With remarkable skill and creativity, he could replicate almost anything he saw, working expertly with wood, concrete, and brick.

By trade, Louis was a master brick mason, and his craftsmanship can still be admired today in custom homes throughout Southern California and in the homes of family members in Colorado.

In addition to his masonry career, Louis proudly served with the Ventura County Fire Department from 1962 to 1991, where he was honored to protect and serve the communities of Moorpark, Fillmore, and Piru.

Louis met and married the love of his life, Rosalee Arlene Zancanella. Together, they shared 68 years of marriage. He loved Rosalee deeply, and his kindness was reflected in the many things he built with his own hands—creating anything he believed she would cherish.

His greatest joy was his family. He cherished time spent in Colorado with relatives, always lending a helping hand—bringing in hay, branding cattle, or building whatever was needed.

He held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life. Whether attending football and baseball games or cheering them on at competitions, he took great pride in supporting them.

Louis was best characterized as a rock, both internally and externally—dependable, honest, intelligent, strong, loving, and kind. The very definition of perseverance describes him perfectly.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosalee Farrar; his sons and daughters-in-law, Louis and Netti Farrar, and Curtis and Gabi Farrar; and his daughter and son-in-law, Max and Michelle Piña. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Bailey Piña Smith (Jared), Candace Farrar, Cody Farrar (Kylie), Brandon Piña, Collin Farrar (Gianna), Bryce Farrar, and Colton Farrar; and his treasured great-grandchildren: Kaori Snowball and Noctis Smith; Caden and Chase Farrar; and Hudson and Crew Farrar.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
