
CHICOPEE – Dennis J. Lajeunesse, 78, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, April 26, 2026. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on August 11, 1947, a beloved son of the late Raymond E. Lajeunesse and Cecile A. Paul. He was raised in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School, Class of 1967 and lived in the Fairview section of Chicopee since 1974. He served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam and attained the rank of Seaman. He was a Police Officer for 31 years with the Chicopee Police Department and retired in July of 2005 with Badge 1. Dennis was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, and the Tigers Athletic Club and the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69, both in Chicopee. He enjoyed attending Men’s Weekend in Truro on the Cape and visiting Anna Marie Island in Florida with his friends, Bob, Bill, and Jimmy. He loved going to the casino, playing cards, and couldn’t resist an ice cold beer. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Darlene E. (Harris) Lajeunesse. They were married on July 13, 1974 at Saint Anne Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 51 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving and devoted daughters, Danielle M. Jimmo and her husband, George, of Chicopee, and Dominique L. DiSantis and her husband, Anthony, of Springfield; his three cherished grandchildren, Lily Jimmo, Brielle DiSantis, and Anthony DiSantis, Jr.; his dear brother, Norman A. Avey and his wife, Monique, of Chicopee; his dear sister, Constance Lafleur of Chicopee; his dear in-laws of the Harris family, Kim Quintal of Agawam, Cynthia Cramer of Chicopee, and Michael Harris of Winthrop, Maine; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Paul R. Lajeunesse who was Called Home on February 12, 2023. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, May 11, 2026 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels,(413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before the Mass. (The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.)
