Obituary

Maureen J. (Hynes) Kilgallon, age 79, of Mansfield, formerly of Brockton and the Oak Square neighborhood of Brighton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Boston Medical Center–South in Brockton.

Maureen was the beloved wife of the late Ronald E. Kilgallon, with whom she shared nearly 55 years of marriage before his passing on May 15, 2023—a partnership rooted in love, devotion, and family.

Born on August 24, 1946, to the late William “Frank” and Margaret (Corcoran) Hynes, Maureen built a life defined by her deep love for her family and her quiet, unwavering strength. She was a devoted mother to Ronald M. Kilgallon of Foxborough, Charlene Kilgallon of Wareham, Jennifer Lucier and her husband Chad of Mendon, Richard Kilgallon of North Easton, and Donna Kilgallon of Mansfield.

Her greatest joy was being “Nana” to her cherished grandchildren, Caitlyn and Ryan Kilgallon, and Abigail Murphy. They were truly the light of her life, and she took immense pride in each of them.

Maureen was predeceased by her siblings Paul, Robert, and Frank “Mickey” Hynes, Virginia Cahill, Phyllis Bradbury, and Janice Hynes. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Raised in Brighton, Maureen later settled in Brockton, where she raised her family among lifelong friends and neighbors. She worked for the Brockton Public School System as a cafeteria manager, where her kindness, warmth, and dedication left a lasting impression on students and colleagues alike. In retirement, she moved to Mansfield and continued to give of herself as a Nutrition Aide at the Mansfield Council on Aging, forming many meaningful friendships along the way.

Maureen found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time at her home in Heron Crest—watching hummingbirds from her back deck, gathering with neighbors for “Gazebo Nights,” and cheering on her beloved New England sports teams. She rarely missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy!, enjoying the comfort of familiar routines.

A natural caretaker, Maureen spent her life putting others before herself, always ensuring her family was cared for, supported, and loved. She believed deeply in doing what was right and led by a quiet, steady example that will continue to guide those who knew her.

She will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and the deep, abiding love she had for her family and community. And she will be fondly remembered for the joy she found in a good bargain—her legendary “deals” will remain a cherished and smiling memory for all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, May 3rd from 3:00-6:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

Her funeral will begin on Monday, May 4th at 10:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30 P.M.

Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Maureen’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Mansfield Council on Aging, 255 Hope Street, Mansfield, MA 02048.
