Obituary

BUXTON – Stanley Vincent Hujsak, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home on April 27th 2026, just one day after celebrating his 93rd birthday.

Born on April 26, 1933, in Nashua, New Hampshire, Stan was the 11th of twelve children born to Polish immigrants Stanley and Zofia Hujsak. He grew up on the family farm in Merrimack and, after honorably serving in the U.S. Army, returned home to join his father as a dairy farmer. It was during these years that he married the love of his life, Marjorie “Marj” Grant. Together, they shared 62 years of true friendship and partnership.

Starting his dairy farm in Merrimack, NH and ending in Buxton, ME where he spent 47 years, he embodied the spirit of the classic New England farmer – strong, capable, smart and resilient. He managed every aspect of farm life, from caring for his cows to navigating finances and reading the weather. Though the work was demanding and the hours long, he always made time for conversation, laughter, and lending a hand to others.

A natural problem-solver, Stan was an expert at growing things, fixing things, acquiring things – you name it, he could build it, repair it or find some way to reuse it. He was a dairy farmer for 30 years. He took immense pride in the farm and after it was no longer a working dairy farm, he opened the property up for cross country skiing – sharing the beauty of the farm with miles of trails through the fields and woods for anyone who was lucky enough to stop by. Even in his later years, Stan remained active, scaling back from full farm operations to tending his yard and an expansive vegetable garden, often still at the helm of his tractors…and producing those famous, delicious pickles.

Throughout his life, Stan was deeply curious and passionate about learning. He continued his own education and wholeheartedly encouraged each of his children to earn college degrees. He was an avid reader with wide-ranging interests—history, space, politics, sports—famously avoiding fiction in favor of the facts of the world. Blessed with a remarkable memory, he was a gifted storyteller who could vividly recall people, places, and moments from even his earliest years.

He was a natural teacher, role model, and a man with a quick wit and warm sense of humor. His life was rich with hard work, family, and world travel, but he found his greatest joy at home—ending many days on the farm with Marj, a glass of wine, a beloved cat on his lap, and a sunset over the back field.

He was deeply devoted to his family, carrying an immense pride for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He held a profound respect for his extended family and was particularly moved by his family’s legacy of military service. This heritage began with his father, who arrived in the United States in 1912 and demonstrated his patriotism by registering for the draft in both World War I and World War II.

Stan was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie. He is survived by daughters Katherine (Steve), Jennie (Jim), Madge (Brian), Elizabeth, and son Michael as well as grandchildren Jessica (Matt), Matthew, Emma, Zach, Spencer, and Skye and two great-grandchildren, Sofia and Jack. He is also survived by his sister Phyllis and brother Tommy.

Affectionately known as Shook, Stash, Dad, Dziadek, and Farmer Stan, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 11 AM – 12:30 AM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. A reception will immediately follow at The River Tap & Grill, 52 Golf Course Lane in Hollis.
