Mary E. “Mae” (Devaney) Grant passed away quietly on April 10, 2026, at the age of 108 years old. She was the daughter of Maude (Willett) and Charles Devaney of Pawcatuck, CT.
Mary was born on February12th, 1918 in Westerly, RI. She was a long-time resident of Watch Hill. She is predeceased by her husband John Grant, son John “Jackie” Grant, daughter Bonnie Wildes, grandsons Christopher Robin Grant and Carl William Panciera, and brothers William Devaney and Charles Devaney. She is survived by her son Bruce Grant of Ledyard, CT, a daughter, Julie Panciera and son-in-law Harold Panciera of Watch Hill and Lady Lake, FL. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great grandson.
Of interest, as a vocalist, Mary won the first talent show held at the United Theatre in the early 1920’s. This led to a successful career singing with several big bands in the 1930’s, such as the Ozzie Nelson Band, the Jimmy Dorsey Band, and others.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
