Obituary


Debra “Debbie” Jean (Peace) Laney, 69, of Black Lick, PA died Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, PA.

The daughter of Ira Clayton and Stella Grace (Smail) Peace, she was born on January 3, 1957 in Spangler, PA.

Debbie wed Charles “Chuck” Edwin Laney on February 29, 2000 and they shared over twenty-six years of marriage.

Following a career in restaurant management, Debbie retired from her position as manager at the Perkins Restaurant in Indiana, PA.

Debbie was a member of the Grace Bible Church in Black Lick, PA, where she greatly enjoyed spending time with her church family participating in many activities. One of her favorite annual church missions was the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox ministry at Christmastime.

Naturally graced with artistic talent, Debbie loved painting on various media, such as canvas, feathers and slate, as well as attending weekend painting retreats. Debbie enjoyed making all sorts of craft projects and would specifically create appropriate 17th and 18th century items to sell at Cook Forest. Her love of creativity and the fun Debbie had designing and sharing her artistic projects brought immense joy to her life and the lives of others.

Debbie looked forward to wearing the appropriate attire to participate, along with her husband Chuck, in historic period reenactments in Fredericksburg, MD. Debbie and Chuck would also take pleasure in visiting flea markets and areas with antiques.

Debbie liked flowers and hummingbirds. Most of all, Debbie was a woman of faith, who thoroughly loved spending time with her family.

Her pets over the years became cherished members of her family, such as her Pomeranians: Jake; Keighly and Lipton; her huskies: Samson and Coty and her cats: Tom, Tim, Tucker, Shadow and Spencer

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Debbie is survived by her husband, Chuck Laney of Black Lick, PA; her two children: William Peace of Brookville, PA and Shawnee Pearce of Glen Campbell, PA and Shawnee’s friend, Eddie Pearce of Punxsutawney, PA; her three grandchildren: Shoshone Best; Alex Joel Peace and Cody Kunselman and her three great grandchildren; Mason Jack; Amelia and Oliver.

Debbie was blessed to be part of a large family. She was one of sixteen children. Surviving are her nine siblings: Charlotte Brown; Ira Peace; Melody Rumbaugh; Regina Peace; Lesa Hancock; Simon Peace; Larry Peace; Randy Peace and Mickey Heeman; numerous nieces and nephews and her husband, Chuck’s family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her six siblings: Frances Magill; Gloria Kunselman; Russell Peace; Robin Peace; Billy Peace and an infant.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from Noon until the time of the 1:00 p.m. funeral service at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA. Pastor John Johnson will officiate. Interment will be at Rowley Cemetery, Hillsdale, PA.
