Catherine T. Judge, age 78, of West Roxbury, a Contract Law Professor at Suffolk University Law School, died on September 14, 2006 at the Boston Center in Roslindale.
A native of Lowell Massachusetts, she has resided in West Roxbury since 1941. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in Roxbury and received her B.S. in Business from Boston University. She went on to earn her Law Degree from Suffolk Law School. She has been associated with her Alma Mater for 50 years in various capacities. She had taught Contract Law.
Over the past 50 years Professor Judge had been “number one” in many paths she had followed at Suffolk Law School. She was the only woman to graduate with the class of 1957, a time when only 4 percent of women comprised the student body. She earned her LLM in 1960. She was the first Law School Registrar and in 1966 made history when she was hired as the Law School’s first woman professor. She was awarded tenure in 1970 and continued to teach for four decades.
She had worked for five Deans during her career. She had been a member of numerous committees at Suffolk Law, including Chair of the Admissions Committee and was honored for her 50 years of service at the Dean’s reception this past October. She was also awarded a Heritage Medallion for her outstanding contribution to the life of the University. Professor Judge was a recipient of the Judge Moynihan award for outstanding Law School Professor.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, in the Holy Name Church, West Roxbury at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell.
Catherine Judge is survived by her brother, Thomas R. Judge and his wife Lois of Norwood. She was the aunt of Marie Hurd, Kathleen Tucker, Alice Gillan and Paul and Christopher Judge and their families. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Katherine (Wholey) Judge and the sister of the late Paul G. Judge.
