Obituary

James J. Seabra of North Providence, RI passed away on March 12, 2026 at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI after a sudden illness at 72 years old.

James was born on October 16, 1953, in Providence, RI to Dolores and Joseph Seabra. He attended Berklee College of Music and graduated with a master’s degree in music.

A lifelong musician, Jim was a member of several bands and musical groups including Motif, and The Sons of Bark. Skilled with dozens of instruments, his favorites were always the timpani and vibraphone. James’ career took him from coast to coast, playing and recording music all over New England, New York, California, Florida, and Delaware.

James was well known for his sense of humor and terrible puns. With a combined 30 years of teaching at Smithfield Public Schools, Rhode Island College, and Providence College, he was a mentor to many. He would often joke about Mr. Seabra’s high school students studying with Prof. Seabra at the college level.

James was a devoted father and brother. He was happiest spending time with his family, year-round grilling, and venturing to his favorite restaurant, Flo’s Clam Shack in Middletown.

James is survived by his son Jonathan and his son's wife Alexandra of North Providence, his sister, Mary E. Trout of Wickford, and long-time friend Christopher P. May of Wickford. He is predeceased by his parents; Dolores and Joseph, stepfather Robert Case, and brother Peter Seabra.

A memorial will be held at the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville RI. Details to follow.
