Obituary

On March 26, 1948, the Lord blessed our family with our beloved Erlinda Sarmiento Garcia, and on January 30, 2026 he called her back into his arms.
Born to Gabriel and Antonia Garcia in Ventura California, Linda was the youngest of 9 siblings. She was a proud lifelong Ventura county resident, who treasured her family and all of her friends.
Linda was a talented artist, who loved to draw and sketch. It was common for her to share her talents with her family, as she would create custom birthday cards every year for them. She also loved going to the movies, music, and taking her brothers and sisters for a cruise around town. She was known to always have her cars in immaculate condition for she loved to detail them inside and out. You just never knew if you would see that same car again because she was always trading them in for a new one!
Linda worked numerous jobs over the years, however she found a home at VCMC where she retired after 20 years as a Supervisor in the Housekeeping department. Her work family adored her. After her retirement, she spent her time cherishing being around her family. Whether it was planned or unannounced, she would always drop in to see you. And if you were lucky enough, you would hop in her car to take a trip to her favorite place, Chumash Casino.
Linda is survived by her sister Marie “Delia” Arroyo (Jess), sister in laws Mary Ann, Margaret, and Rachel Garcia, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and cherished her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents Gabriel and Antonia, brothers Joe, Johnny, Julio, Manuel, Tony, and sisters Daria and Lily. Our family would like to thank her caregivers who always showed her love and compassion. A special thank you to Cassy Booker, Linda’s nieces Kathi, Quetta, and Edwina for always being present for their Tia Linda. And most importantly, thank you to her sister Delia for keeping her promise to their mom that she would always watch after her little sister.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10am Thursday March 26, 2026 in Sacred Heath Roman Catholic Church, 10800 Henderson Road Ventura. A reception to celebrate Erlinda’s memory is planned following Mass at 12:30pm at 11370 Darling Rd, Ventura, CA 93003 at the Clubhouse.
