Peter J. Brown, 79

Dateline: Lakeville, MA

Peter J. Brown, age 79, of Lakeville, formerly of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the beloved husband of Deborah A. (Bryant) Brown, to whom he was wed on May 2, 1970.

Born in Norwood, MA on March 8, 1947, he was a loving son of the late Frank Judson Brown, Jr. and Christine (Hogan) Brown.

Peter grew up in his hometown of Canton and was a graduate of Canton High School. During the Vietnam War, he proudly, honorably and bravely served his country as a member of the United States Army. He was the recipient of numerous citations and medals, most importantly the Purple Heart. Peter was discharged from active duty on September 18, 1968 with the rank of Sergeant and was a life member of the DAV.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Brown served and protected the people of the community of Canton, as a firefighter and EMT for thirty years. In his spare time, his second job allowed him to demonstrate his talents as a master carpenter.

Peter’s love for his family and grandchildren was unconditional and he’ll always be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his strong work ethics and loyalty to friends and country.

In addition to his wife of nearly fifty-six years, he is survived by his devoted sons, Marc B. Brown and his life partner Elizabeth of Cumberland, RI, Judson Peter Brown and his wife Sarita of California and Aaron R. Brown and his wife Andrea of Easton. He was the cherished and overly proud grandfather of Gina, Ella, Peter ”PJ”, Kayla and Logan. He was the dear brother of Mary Ann Brown of Braintree, Kathy Brown of Braintree, Susie Fortuna of Walpole, Tim Brown of Braintree, the late David Brown of Canton and the late Billy Brown of Canton. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, March 28th from 2:00-5:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

Military honors, rendered by the members of the United States Army, will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours at 5:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.

Burial , along with a service in celebration of his life, will be held at later date and places to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, Peter’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the DAV, Beacon Street State House Room 546, Boston, MA 02133.
