A Life of Light: Marie Dieumène Dumornay
December 7, 1953 - February 24, 2026

Marie Dieumène Dumornay, née Marie Dieumène Fédé, was born on December 7, 1953, in Haiti. She was the beloved first daughter of the late St-Remy Fédé and Altide Florent, both of whom preceded her in death. Marie carried her heritage with pride and grace. Marie wisely responded to the call of God by giving her life to Jesus Christ, thus committing to her life-long walk of faith, strength, and unconditional love. After a blessed courtship, Marie wed Joseph Michelet Dumornay, on July 17, 1976. Together, they built a legacy rooted in Christ and family for over 50 years.

A devoted servant of God, Marie dedicated herself wholeheartedly to ministry at Church of God, Bethel (both, of Haiti and of Boston). Amongst her many gifts, Marie used her skill for instruction to serve as a Sunday School teacher, as an inspiring leader and active member of the Women’s Ministry, and as a joyful choir member. She fulfilled each role dutifully and humbly, living out her faith through renowned compassion, sacrifice, and prayer. Her favorite scripture, Isaiah 60:1 — “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.” — reflected the light she carried throughout her life.

Marie completed both primary and secondary school. She continued her education attending trade school, to be technically trained as a stenographer and administrative support person. In later years, Marie became focused on extending her motherly care to others as a foster mother, opening her heart and home to children in need. She nurtured, protected, and advocated for every child entrusted to her care as if they were her own. She was also a mother to her beloved cat (deceased), and dog who brought her joy and companionship.

Marie lived a life firm in the Christian faith, devotion to truth, and unwavering love for her family. She was a woman of strength, dignity, and quiet resilience, whose presence brought comfort and stability to those around her. Her life reflected steadfast commitment to exemplifying the redemptive Word of God through admirable partnership with her husband, and the tender rearing of her children, and her growing generations.

On February 24, 2026, after a brief illness, First Lady Marie Dieumène Dumornay peacefully transitioned from this life. She was surrounded by her family and Rev. Dr. Daniel N. Auguste, who stood at her bedside, sending her home in prayer and song.

Marie leaves now, to cherish her memory, her husband, lifetime partner, and pastor, the Rev. Dr. Joseph Michelet Dumornay, and her children:
