Richard Hugh Agnew, 79, died peacefully Saturday, February 14, at Milford Regional Medical Center.
Born in Beverly, April 30, 1946, and raised in Plymouth the son of the late Dr. Clifford C. Agnew and Mary M. (Collier) Agnew.
He is survived by his wife, Meredith, and their sons Claughton Miller and his daughter Cecile of Nairobi, Kenya and Charles Miller his wife Heather and their son Teddy of Holliston.
He is also survived by his siblings Elspeth Filla, Susan Agnew and David Agnew. He was predeceased by his son Christopher.
Rick was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star Medal for his service in the Army. Following his tour of duty, he worked for a time at John Hancock and afterwards had a successful career in town government serving as Town Administrator for the towns of Marshfield, Needham and Scituate.
Rick was well liked by all who knew him. He was as a sportsman and a good tennis player, but golf was his favorite. He made a pact with his wife that if she took up the game of golf, he would play all his golf with her, and that he did.
Upon retirement Rick and Meredith moved to Vero Beach, Florida where they spent their days playing tennis, golf, beach combing, swimming in their pool and baking cookies for Cecile and Teddy.
After ten years away, he returned to Massachusetts and settled in Millis taking daily walks around the pond at Choate Park, getting his favorite muffins from the Muffin House and being the proudest grandfather on the sidelines or in the stands, watching his grandson Teddy evolve into a fine athlete.
So, it is with heavy hearts, that we say farewell to our “Papa Rick”. God speed and know without question that you are deeply missed.
Richard’s services will be private.
