Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share the sudden passing of Amanda Catherine (Tift) Riley in the early morning hours of February 17, 2026.

Born on November 23, 1991, in Connecticut, Amanda was the youngest daughter of Denise and Leroy Tift of Groton. She came from a big family—loud, loving, and loyal—where Sunday dinners, family vacations, and deep community roots shaped the woman she became. A Groton–Mystic Falcon cheerleader in her youth, a 2010 graduate of Grasso Tech, and later the dedicated General Manager of the Super 8 Motel. Amanda poured her heart into everything she did.

She was known for her striking eyes and the kind of smile that lit up every room she entered. Her laughter was contagious, her strength unapologetic. Amanda had a rare gift for making others feel welcomed and truly seen.

She loved the Dallas Cowboys in a happy “house divided”—Patrick cheering for the Steelers. She baked, he cooked. Together they chased good food, adventures to far-off places, and their favorite concerts-- always building lasting memories.

Above all, Amanda was a wife and a mother. She leaves behind her husband, partner, and best friend, Patrick- the devoted father of their children—to carry her memory forward. They shared a rare and genuine love, creating a life they both desired and deserved.

Just days before her passing, Amanda fulfilled her greatest dream—becoming a mother to her favorite Valentine—her newborn baby girl, Tess McKenzie.
Though her time was short, she leaves behind the best parts of her.

She is survived by her husband, Patrick; her children, Charlie and Tess; her parents, Denise and Leroy Tift; and her father-in-law, Dave Riley. She also leaves behind her sisters, Ashley, Alicia, and Amber; her beloved nieces and nephews, Brianna, Lydia, Addison, Maddox, Herman, and Hope; her great-nephew Nicholas; many aunts, uncles, cousins—and yes, Uncle John is the best.

Amanda was also a loyal friend. She leaves her longtime boss and close friend, Terence, and her best friend, Maria, along with countless others whose lives were brighter because she was in them.

Though she left us far too soon, a piece of her light remains in all who loved her. When you think of Amanda, remember her kindness, share your memories and hold on to her same zest for life.

Always left, never forgotten.- Forever Loved.

Amanda's family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, February 28, from 11am to 2pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at Brookside Hall, 43 Hatch Street, Mystic. All are welcome.
