Obituary

DUDLEY – Wanda (Kurpiel) Urbanski, 73, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on February 17, 2026.


She is survived by her 2 sons, Maciej Ciesielski and his long-time partner Amanda Muise, of whom Wanda thought of as “the daughter she never had”, and Jakub Ciesielski and his wife Jolanta of Poland; 2 grandsons, Piotr Ciesielski and, Adam Ciesielski and his fiancé Aleksandra Cejnog,; a great-grandson Jan Ciesielski; a brother Roman Kurpiel and his wife Barbara of Webster; several nephews; several god-children; many cousins; and her beloved fur baby, Kaiser. She was preceded in death by her infant brother Henryk Kurpiel and by her step-father Edward Zalewski. Her husband of 23 years, Marian K. Urbanski, died in 2014.


She was born on March 18, 1952 in Brzeg, Poland, the daughter of Stanislaw Kurpiel and Aniela (Pietrzak) Zalewski. She was a high school graduate and completed studies to become a registered nurse. She emigrated to America in 1981 and went to Becker Junior College to meet the qualifications to become a registered nurse in America.

Mrs. Urbanski worked as a registered nurse both in Poland and after recertification in America. She first worked as the nursing supervisor at both Hubbard Regional Hospital and Webster Manor, both in Webster and retired from Saint Vincent Hospital in 2016.

She enjoyed cooking and baking and was an avid gardener known for her roses and vegetables. In Poland she was a skilled glider pilot who had competed in many competitions.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 28, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster (please meet at church). Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
