
Joan I. (Vierra) Machado, 78, of Central Falls, Rhode Island, died peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Evergreen House Health Center in East Providence, Rhode Island surrounded by family after a long period of declining health.
She was the beloved wife of Joaquim “Jack” Machado who died in 2019.
Born in Attleboro on July 14, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Doris (Turgeon) Vierra.
Joan was a long-time resident of Central Falls. She grew up in South Attleboro and graduated from Attleboro High School in 1965.
Joan worked at Osram Sylvania, Inc., formerly Corning Glass Works, for many years.
She enjoyed playing bingo and slots, and was an avid card player. She also enjoyed going to the casino and watching game shows.
Joan is survived by her sister Dorothy Irving of South Attleboro, two brothers Paul Vierra of Cumberland, Rhode Island and David Vierra of Lincoln, Rhode Island, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the sister of the late Joseph, Donald and Michael Vierra.
At the request her family, graveside services will take place privately at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Attleboro.
