
Jean Hedwig Lane passed away after a short illness on February 5, 2026 at the age of 92. She was born Jean Witte on July 7, 1933 in New York City to Hans and Jean Witte. She graduated from New Rochelle High School in New Rochelle, NY in June of 1951. Married to Leonard A. Lane in the Bronx, NY on February 2nd 1953, divorced in 1957.
After raising her two sons in the home of her father, Jean began a career working at the New Rochelle Police Department where she worked for over 20 years as a clerk in the records department. Jean was active in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Rochelle for many years. She retired to Manchester, NH. Jean spent many years developing excellent skills in craft work, knitting, sewing, quilting and crochet. She famously made garments and ornamental work for family members and donated to local charities. Cards and board games were a passion for her which she played with zeal.
She is predeceased by her brother Robert Witte in February of 2022 and her son Leonard Austin Lane in January of 2026. She is survived by her son Bryan Keith Lane his wife Pamela. Grandchildren Matthew Lane and his wife Megan as well as Allison Lane and her husband Sebastian Sink. She took great pride in her great grandchildren Lucas and Emerson Lane.
Jean lived a long life on her terms and she will be missed.
Following cremation, there are no services planned at this time. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry, NH is assisting the family with arrangements.
