Obituary

Geraldo Andrade Lopes, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026.

Born on June 4, 1950, in Brava, Cape Verde, Geraldo was the beloved son of the late Augusto and Perpetua Lopes. Affectionately known as Gerry, he grew up in Jamaica Plain, Boston, where he formed lifelong friendships and became known for his humor, warmth, and love of storytelling.

At the age of 21, Geraldo enlisted in the United States Army, a commitment he held with great pride. He attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. During his service, he was also recognized as an expert in both hand grenades and the M16.

Geraldo is survived by his two sons, Christopher Rosa and Louis C. Rosa and his wife, Marlyn Rosa; four granddaughters, Tatyanna Rosa, Xeila Rosa, Aiyana Rosa, and Nelicia Rosa; and three great-grandchildren, Milan, Zeylan, and Nico Grayson. He is also survived by his siblings, Eva Rodrigues and Augusto Lopes Jr., as well as his nieces, Evelyn Rodrigues and Celeste Rodrigues. He was predeceased by his nephew, Manuel Rodrigues.

He will be fondly remembered for his love of fishing and cars, and for living life on his own terms—laughing all the way. Geraldo never met a stranger he couldn’t make laugh. A master cook with a true love for the kitchen, he will forever be remembered for his famous dishes, especially his baked stuffed lobster. His presence filled every room, and his stories left lasting smiles.

A service honoring the life of Geraldo Andrade Lopes will be held on Wednesday, February 18, at 1:15 PM. Military honors will be rendered at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA 02542.

Final salute to a dedicated servant of our nation.
Rest in eternal peace—gone but never forgotten.
