Obituary

Sally Clark St. Clair, 93, of Chester, passed away peacefully in the company of her family on January 9, 2026. She was born on May 10, 1932, in Manchester, New Hampshire, to William D. Clark and Sarah Varney Clark. After graduating from Manchester Central High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Walter F. St. Clair Jr. The couple spent several years in Denver, Colorado, before returning to New Hampshire and settling in Chester, where they made their home.

Sally devoted much of her life to her family and community. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as a librarian at Chester Elementary School and later as a clerk at the Chester Post Office. She lived a full and active life and was deeply involved in the Chester Congregational Baptist Church, where she served for many years as a member of the church choir, treasurer, and trustee of the trust funds. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Rockingham Herb Society, reading, and keeping on top of her personal finances, as well as her 40 years vacationing at Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

One of Sally’s passions was genealogy. She took great pride in tracing her family’s roots on the Clark side to early settlers in southern New Hampshire, including her great-great grandfather, Corporal William Danforth, who fought and was wounded at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Most of all she cherished holiday gatherings with her family. Though she slowed down in later years, she remained mentally sharp and fully engaged until the end.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally Ann (with whom she shared a birthday), and her husband, Robert Green; her sons, Scott and Brett, and Brett’s wife, Kristin; and her grandchildren, Eric Green, Sarah Green and her partner Chris Hamel, Jason Green, Meagan St. Clair and her partner Adam Scholtz, Greg St. Clair and his wife Kayla.

A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to the Chester Congregational Baptist Church.
