Obituary

Thomas C Hashem, “The Computer Helper”, a lifelong resident of Saugus, Massachusetts, passed away after a brief illness on December 24, 2025, at Salem Hospital in Salem, MA. He was 84.

While born in Lynn to Thomas A Hashem and Marion E (Tarr) Hashem, Tom was raised in Saugus and remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life. Tom was a graduate of Saugus High School, earned a Bachelors from Northeastern University and a Masters in Education from Salem State College. He dedicated over 30 years to education as a middle school math teacher and Department Chairman at North Reading Junior High School, where he was known for his patience, intelligence, and commitment to helping young people succeed. After retiring from teaching, Tom continued doing what he loved most—helping others—through his work as a computer consultant with his partner Bakir Becirovic of Digital Freedom, generously sharing his knowledge with many. Tom worked with many organizations including SEEM Collaborative, the Town of Saugus and any individuals who needed or wanted computer assistance.

Tom was a lifelong music fan and musician. As a young adult, he played the trumpet in both band and jazz band, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He also enjoyed ham radio, fishing, and working with computers, hobbies that reflected both his curiosity and his thoughtful, detail-oriented nature.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Hashem; his son, Michael Hashem, and daughter-in-law Gail (Brennan); his daughter, Pamela (Hashem) LeBlanc, and son-in-law Mark; and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Allison LeBlanc, and Mikayla, Rachel, and Kaitlyn Hashem.

Tom will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and friend whose kindness, love of learning, and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
