Obituary

Ernest J. Alix, 77, of Derry, NH, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at his home. He was born on June 24, 1948 in Spencer, MA, the eldest son of the late Ernest A. Alix and Lucette (Brien) Alix.

Ernest, known by many as Ernie, married Joyce R. Wall of Lawrence, MA on August 11, 1979. In 1984, with the help of family members and friends, they hand-built their family home in Derry, NH, where they lived for nearly 40 years and raised their children Matthew, Justin, and Jonathan.

Ernie was a proud alumnus of Merrimack College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in History. In the 1970s, he joined his father at the family business, Ernie's Garage in Windham, NH. Ernie was an ASE Master Certified Automotive Technician, and with his father's retirement in 1995, he assumed the roles of owner, operator, and chief mechanic. He continued to build on the impressive reputation of the business and serve the community for another 27 years until he retired and closed the business in 2022. Many will remember Ernie as a talented, knowledgeable, and honest mechanic who always made time for his customers.

Ernie was a lover of sports, having played hockey and football in his youth, and he enjoyed attending football, baseball, and hockey games. He also enjoyed camping with his family, visiting various National Parks across the country, amateur wildlife photography, deer hunting, fly fishing, and shooting at the local Sportman’s Club, where he won several tournaments.
An avid lover of both motorcycles and cars, Ernie rarely missed NASCAR race weekends at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He could often be found visiting local car shows in his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro (which he named “Jenna”) that he completely rebuilt from the frame up.

Ernie was predeceased by his wife of nearly 43 years, Joyce (Wall) Alix. He is survived by his three sons, Matthew Alix, Justin Alix and his wife Emily Caswell, and Jonathan Alix and his wife Catherine; two grandchildren, Benjamin Alix and Hannah Alix; three brothers, Francis Alix, Albert Alix, and Paul Alix; seven sisters, Rosemarie Rinaldo, Annemarie Campbell-St. Jean, Theresa Paradis, Mary Dahlberg, Margaret Stuart, Catherine St. Ledger, and Joyce McDonald; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Alix and Alfred Alix.
