...Vietnam War Veteran; Local 537 Pipefitter; 69
TEWKSBURY - Robert J. Thibedeau Sr., age 69, a longtime resident of Tewksbury and a
member of several Veterans fraternal organizations, died Sunday morning, September 3, at the
V.A. Hospital in West Roxbury, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Somerville, on December 31, 1936, a son of the late John D. and Rose (Cleary)
Thibedeau. He was raised in Somerville and graduated Somerville High School. He raised his
family in Tewksbury and moved to Pasco, Washington, before returning to Lowell several years
ago.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the D.A.V. Post 110,
and the V.F.W. Post 8164 in Tewksbury. He also was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington
Elks Lodge in Tewksbury and the East End Club in Lowell.
He retired as a Pipefitter and was a member of the Pipefitter’s Boston Local 537.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane Leather and her husband Harry of
Jacksonville, FL, Jill Thibedeau of Lowell; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Thibedeau Jr
of Hillsboro, NH, Michael Thibedeau and his wife Jacqueline (Sutton) of Londonderry, NH, and
Daniel Thibedeau of Derry, NH; ten grandchildren, Holly Shannon, Jacki Thibedeau, Drake
Luongo, Jake Luongo all of Lowell, Ashley Thibedeau, Jessica Leather, Danielle Leather, and
Jennifer Leather all of FL, Michael Thibedeau and Shelby Thibedeau both of Londonderry, NH;
one great granddaughter, Victoria; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joan Amerault of Littleton,
Sharyn Woodman and her husband William of Revere; his former wife, Jane F. (Woodman)
Carbone of FL; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral was held Thursday, September 7, in the funeral home. Burial with Army Honors followed in Tewksbury Cemetery.
