SPENCER__ Eugenia C. (Matulis) Nelson, 79, formerly of Worcester died peacefully at home with her family on Wednesday, August 30.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Arthur W. Nelson; two sons, Stephen Nelson and his wife Laura of Whitinsville and Christopher and his wife Laurie of Thompson, CT., a daughter, Maryann Smith and her husband Vernon of Spencer with whom she lived; six grandchildren, Matthew, Marissa, Cassandra, Benjamin Amanda and Pamela; a brother, Leonard Matulis and a sister, Albina Bartkus, both of Worcester. She was predeceased by a brother, Constantine Matulis, a sister, Ruth Ashmankis and twin granddaughters Jacqueline and Elizabeth. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of Charles and Mary (Maksimas) Matulis and lived there until moving to Spencer 13 months ago.
Mrs. Nelson attended St. Casimir’s School and graduated from the former Commerce High School, Worcester. She was a former member of St. Casimir’s Church in Worcester, the St Casimir’s Mother’s Guild, choir and sodality. She was an avid sports fan favoring the Red Sox and Celtics. Eugenia was a nurturer and enjoyed butterflies and gardens.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 5, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10:00 am in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St., Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday, September 4 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
