Obituary

Selma Touber, a lifelong resident of Lynn, died on August 31, 2006 at the Abbott House in Lynn. She was 84 years old.

Born in Lynn on April 7, 1922, the daughter of the late Maxwell and Carrie (Abrahams) Touber, Miss Touber was educated in the Lynn Schools. She went on to study at Indiana University and the University of Wisconsin. She served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Storekeeper third class and was honorably discharged from active duty on February 22, 1944 at Norman, Oklahoma. Upon returning from military service, Miss Touber began her career as a dedicated teacher in the Lynn Public School System. She was also affiliated with the Wakefield Public Library as a librarian.

Miss Touber was the dear sister of Charlotte Hoffman of Lynn. She was the loving aunt of Alan Hoffman and his wife Ann of Newton, Aileen Cordette and her husband Gary of Swampscott and great-aunt of Jessica Mitchell and her husband Andrew of Georgia and Maxwell Hoffman of Wellesley.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Congregation Shirat Hayam – Beth El Section Cemetery, Lowell St. Peabody. Rabbi David Meyer of Temple Emanu-El of Marblehead will officiate. Memorial observance will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of ones own choosing. Funeral services were entrusted to the care of the Torf Funeral Chapel of Chelsea.
