Spain (Campo) Panciera, of 430 No. Stonington Road, Stonington, passed away early Sunday morning at her home. She was 97.
Mrs. Panceria was born in Old Mystic on November 3, 1908 one of nine children to Eugenio and Teresa (Cercena) Campo. In her earlier years, she was employed at the Old Mystic Mill and the Stonington Velvet
She was married to Mario “Matt” Panciera in Old Mystic on January 15, 1930, and together lived in their home since September 1, 1938. He died October 3, 1997.
Mrs. Panciera enjoyed spending her time taking care of her expansive yard including the chore of haying. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards and making her renowned dish, palenta.
She is survived by her siblings, Clifton Campo of Ledyard and Jean George of Fairport, NY; many nieces and nephews including her great-nephew and care giver, Todd Cunnian of Stonington; and her close friends, Bernadine Shea and the Fontanella family. She was predeceased by her siblings, Helena Willet, Leah Musante, Olive Higgins, Rena Delicato, Henry Campo, and Charles Campo.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday from 12-12:45pm. A Funeral service will follow at 1pm with the Rev. Doretta Colburn, former Pastor of the Mystic Congregational Church, officiating. Following the servie, she will be buried beside her late husband at Elm Grove Cemetery.
