Obituary

McLean, VA____Maurice A. “Bud” Kelliher, 79, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 14, 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jacqueline (Coghlin) Kelliher and their seven children, Maurice A. “Mak” Kelliher, Jr., and his wife Barbara of Pawleys Island, SC., John E. Kelliher and his wife Kathy of Warrenton, VA., Michael J. Kelliher and his wife Jody of Shrewsbury, MA., James T. Kelliher of New York, NY., Mary K. Bowden and her husband Lance of Clifton, VA., Edwin P. “Ted” Kelliher and his wife Sheila of Stephens City, VA., and Joan M. Fisher and her husband Benton of Fairfax, VA. He was also the proud “Grandpa Bud” of Kevin, Jessica, Molly, John, Tommy, Rachel, Hannah, Scottie, Joe and Jackson. He also leaves many nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, MA., on November 9, 1926, son of Maurice A. and Catherine Kelliher. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Rita Shea and Eleanor Connolly and his brother, Rev. Monsignor John J. Kelliher. He graduated from Classical High School, Worcester in 1944 and from the College of the Holy Cross in 1949. He served two years in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Kelliher was a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for thirty years from July 1951 until retiring in August 1981. He was an active member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. Bud was very involved at his parish, St. John the Beloved Catholic Church in McLean for over 45 years. Although he moved from Worcester over 50 years ago, his love for the city never changed. He continued to receive a daily subscription to the Telegram & Gazette newspaper at his McLean residence until his death.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church on August 18.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial Mass on Saturday Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., 2000 L St., NW, Suite 710, Washington, DC 20036 or to the Department of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation at Virginia Hospital Center, 1701 N. George Mason Drive, Arlington, VA 22205. DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., Worcester is assisting the family.
