Ruby Faye Gordon Nelson, devoted christian wife, mother and homemaker, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2006, at her home in the presence of her friends and family in Southaven, MS. Born in Water Valley, MS she was preceded in death by her parents Elmer H. Gordon and Elvie Walker Gordon.
Ruby Faye is survived by her husband Elton G. Nelson; her sons, Elton J. Nelson of Horn Lake, MS, Terry E. Nelson of Water Valley, MS and Wesley D. Nelson of Southaven, MS; a brother, James E. Gordon of Water Valley, MS and a sister Virginia (Ginger) Donaldson of Arkabutla, MS. She also leaves five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Ruby Faye worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone in Memphis after graduating from High School and before her marriage. After her marriage to Elton, she devoted herself to being a mother and a homemaker. Ruby Faye and Elton were married fifty-two years. She was an adamant Christian woman devoted to her church and volunteering. Always ready to help out in the community, she led a full life as a Sunday School teacher and a Vacation Bible School helper. Pleased with her service with the BOLD mission trips through the Northwest Baptist Association, she participated in twenty missions around the United States. She was a charter member of Carriage Hills Baptist Church and loved her current church home, Trinity Baptist Church of Southaven. She had been WMU director and a charter volunteer "Pink Lady" at Baptist Hospital-Desoto.
In the community she had been a PTA officer and a multi-year volunteer for both the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. A charter member of the Jaycettes Southaven Chapter, she was in the VFW Woman's Auxiliary, served eighteen years volunteering with the Civil Defense and will be remembered by many young men as a wonderful Den Mother and Cub Scout Leader of Pack 347 in Southaven. Her presence and service in the community will be greatly missed.
The viistation will be held on Monday, August 21, 2006 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 11:00 AM with committal in Broom Cemetery in Coffeeville, MS.
