Obituary

Joseph “Shad” Araby of Dedham passed away on August 17, 2006 at the Wingate Nursing Home in Needham. He was 82. Mr. Araby was born in Dedham and was the son of the late Joseph and Philomena (Vetri) Araby.

A World War II U.S. Navy Veteran, Shad spent more than 30 years as a custodian for the Dedham Public School System. He was a passionate supporter of the Marauder’s football and basketball teams.

When he retired he became a trustee of the Dedham Public Library. He was also a member of the Dedham Booster Club, Dedham Alumni Association Shiretown Club, Italian American Citizen’s Club of Dedham and the St. Mary’s Church Youth Program. Shad was loved by many and will be missed by all.

He was the devoted father of Frank J. Araby of Leesburg, VA. He was the grandfather of Brenna and Niall Araby of Leesburg, VA. He was the devoted brother of Edith and Frances Araby of Dedham, James Araby of Norwood and the late Antoinette Cambria and Michael Araby. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham, on Saturday at 8:00 AM. His funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham, at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8 PM. Interment will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. Donations may be made to the Joseph “Shad” Araby Scholorship Fund, Dedham High School, 140 Whiting Ave., Dedham, MA 02026.
