Obituary

Diane (Wilson) Tobey, beloved wife of Bruce W. Tobey for forty years, longtime resident of Medford, 62 years old, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts on April 19, 2025. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on July 14,1962, Diane was the beloved daughter of Dorothy E. (Palmer) Wilson and also the daughter of the late Edwin F. Wilson.

Along with her beloved husband, Bruce and her mother, Dorothy, Diane is lovingly survived by: daughter, Christa and her husband Brian Keohan (Medford) and their son, Dante (who lovingly named her Hey You many years ago); step daughter, Jennifer DeVone (Worcester) and her children, Shayla, De’Ondre, Daikari, Min, Zareyah, Rayzel, and great-granddaughter, Lucianni; step daughter, Melissa Tobey (Worcester) and her children, Lillyana and Aubriella; sister, Lisa Barnes and her husband Tim (Tewksbury) and their children, Alexa (Montana) and Jason; sister, Lynda Gephart and her husband Craig (Pennsylvania) and their children, Ryan/Morgan (New Hampshire) and Corey; her Tobey family; her Palmer family; her like-family neighbor, Alysia Monaco; and the dearest of all friends, Tricia Day Voner. Family and close friends were of foremost importance to Diane, and she will be dearly missed by hers!

Diane was employed for 44 years by Muriel Siebert (formerly Stock Cross) in Boston, where she advanced through the years from beginning as a file clerk to ending her work as the assistant operations manager, and where she enjoyed good friendships with so many of her colleagues in Boston and around the country.

Diane was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Medford, her church home since her early childhood. She served as a member of the Board of Christian Education, as a Sunday School teacher, as the Sunday School Superintendent, as the financial secretary, and in many informal ways through the years. Diane will be missed by her loving church family.

Diane loved time in Ocean Park, Maine, her favorite vacation spot, last visited with family and friends for a special weekend in early April to see the ocean one last time. Diane’s hobby was shopping at the stores and through the Facebook Live sales of 4 Good Vibes, appreciating the handcrafts of many local artisans. She also enjoyed her monthly visits, years ago with Anna, then in more recent years with Jess, while getting her hair cut at Assymetrics. ...Diane’s favorite things truly were anything that connected her with people – family gatherings, family trips, phone calls, Facebook, Facetime, chats with her Dudley St neighbors, services and events at church, hanging out with friends.

Diane courageously battled breast cancer off and on for the last two decades, first at the age of 42, and then again in recent years. The scripture verse Diane clung to throughout her cancer battle was Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. She was deeply grateful for the medical care she received from Dr. Beverly Moy, Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, and the whole team of gifted caregivers who cheered her on through the years. And Diane’s family is deeply grateful for the loving care she received from the Care Dimensions staff at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers through her last few days of life.

Visiting hours with Diane’s family will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 4 to 8 PM. Diane's funeral service will be celebrated at the First Baptist Church, 29 Oakland Street, Medford on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11 am. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
