STANDISH- Margaret “Peggy” Covert Smith, age 77, passed away on April 18, 2025, at her home surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born in Montour Falls, New York on November 7, 1947, a daughter of the late Robert and Barbara Covert.
She graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly, New Jersey, and attended college in upstate Pennsylvania at Robert Morse College. Her family spent summers on Watchic Lake in Standish and in 1968, she moved there to start a family.
Peggy enjoyed time in her numerous flower gardens, Thursday night family dinners, and family and friend’s cookouts. She was an avid Patriots fan, dog lover, and enjoyed the many bird houses, feeders, and baths on her property. However, the most important thing in Peggy’s life was her family. Being nanny to two grandchildren that she absolutely adored, and being the ever so proud mother of her two beloved sons. You could find Peggy at any given Throttle show, with all her love and support for their band, and all that attended would love to see her there.
She is survived by her two sons Mikel Smith of Standish, Peter Smith and wife Stephanie of Standish, brother Robert Covert and wife Linda of Buxton, brother Kevin Covert of Standish, sister Katherine Richardson of Standish, Nephew Robert Richardson and husband Phil Stocker of Portland, and two grandchildren Jo and Mikel of Standish.
Visiting Hours will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 12pm-2pm at Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Rd (Rt.22) Buxton, ME.
