Obituary

Luther John “Jack” Lutz

December 26, 1945- April 18, 2025

Luther John “Jack” Lutz, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on April 18, 2025. Jack was born on December 26, 1945, in Anderson, Indiana, and remained a lifelong resident of the city he loved. He graduated from Highland High School and attended Indiana University.

He was preceded in death by his father, Parmer Lutz, and his mother, Ann Farrell.

Jack is survived by his wife, Becky Lutz; his children, Stacy Schultz (Shad), Michael Lutz, and Christopher Lutz (Heather); his sister, Janice Thomas; and his stepchildren, Krista Robinette (Brian) and Kim Hatfield (Steve). He adored his twelve grandchildren — Hunter Schultz, Haley (Elijah) Kraft, Sarah Schultz, Audra Lutz, Caila Lutz, Alexa Lutz, Gavin Lutz, Caymn Lutz, Jaydn Lutz and Bayden Lutz stepchildren Trevor and Austin Robinette — and his great-grandson, Colson.

In high school, Jack was named “American Legion Boy of the Year” and went on to play football at Indiana University — a team he loyally followed for the rest of his life.

A dedicated community servant and longtime business owner, Jack operated Parmer Lutz Furniture and served in numerous civic leadership roles throughout the Anderson area. He was a committed member of the Anderson Noon Exchange Club since 1970.

Jack’s community involvement extended to many organizations, including the Madison County Senior Citizen's Center (President), Madison County Diabetes Association, Mayor’s Committee on Community Awareness, Madison County Environmental Board, and First United Methodist Church.

His most notable public service included nine years on the Madison County Council and 23 distinguished years in the Indiana House of Representatives. In recognition of his outstanding civic contributions, Jack was honored with the Sagamore of the Wabash Award in 2017.

After retiring in 2014, Jack devoted his time to what he cherished most — being with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 11 AM at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson.
