Allan J. MacDonald of Plymouth, formerly of Charlestown, passed away peacefully after a 20 year battle with Multiple Myeloma on April 16th, 2025, at Beth Israel Deaconess in Plymouth. He was 70 years old.
Al was born in Waltham on May 2nd 1954, a son of the late John M. MacDonald and Jeanne F. (Nocera) MacDonald. He grew up in Waltham and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School. Allan was employed by the City of Boston Police Department Radio Shop, where he retired after 30 years of service. Radio Communication was his greatest passion - he served in the MA Air National Guard 267th Combat Communication Squadron as a Ground Radio Equipment Repairman and he held his ham radio license from the age of 13 (W1AJM). He loved to ride motorcycles, and also trained to fly single engine planes. He loved animals, was a big fan of music - especially the Blues, and spending time with friends and family at Ellis Haven Campground.
Allan is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susan (Millerick) MacDonald, his son Owen MacDonald and his wife Jenna of Putnam, CT, his daughter Elizabeth (Bizzy) MacDonald of Plymouth, MA, and his son Jonathan Blake and his wife Heather and their children of Monmouth, ME. Al leaves behind his sisters Dianne MacDonald of Centerville, MA, Christine Bates and her husband Harold of New Ipswich, NH, and his sister-in-law Debbie MacDonald of Leominster, MA. He was predeceased by his brother Robert MacDonald.
